My own sheep certainly do
Shout holy to the king
The light now cometh”

Everyone claim to love God by being religious. However, as it has earlier been submitted in one of our readings that the Christian faith is more than a religion because our God is more than a religious leader. Amen. We must understand above all that our call to the Christian faith is a call to discipleship where we are expected to be pattering our lives to that of our ‘discipler’ which is our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the submission of Paul to the Galatians when he told them plainly that he groans like a mother in labour for the very nature of Christ to be formed in Him. Amen. By this, we will become God’s friends. Today’s text is bringing to our awareness that obedience is the practical way to confirm our status as a friend to Christ. Amen.

As believers, it is important for us to know that obedience is one of the indispensable virtues needed if we are true friends of Christ. This is absolute obedience! It is not one done by convenience, or a type that is selective. Abraham for example lived in absolute obedience to God and as a result was referred to as a friend to God. Interestingly, this testimony came from God Himself. Amen. Looking at the life of Abraham, he obeyed God even when he seems unreasonable to do so. He was asked to live His father’s house even when he was not really sure where he was going. Also, when God instructed him to circumcise all the male children, he did not hesitate. It was this act of obedience that propelled him to be willing to sacrifice his son Isaac on the altar of obedience. May God help you to walk with God in this light in Jesus’ Name. Amen

Beloved, obeying God goes beyond adhering to general instructions but to commands sent to you personally. May God grant you the enablement to first of all hear God clearly and obey Him promptly in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

In the light of today’s study, what does it mean to be a true friend of God?
