The Celestial Church of Christ, the world’s largest indigenous white garment church received a new lease of life on Thursday 15th November 2018, when the Pastor and Spiritual Head of the church, Rev. E.M. Oshoffa, inaugurated a reconstituted 79 member strong Pastor-in-Council. The Pastor-in-Council is the highest policy-making and ruling body of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide. The event which took place at the Celestial Church of Christ, Agidingbi Cathedral, Ikeja, Lagos was attended by the top echelon of the church drawn from all over the country and the diaspora.
The 79 member strong Council has the Pastor and Spiritual Head, Rev Pastor E.M. Oshoffa as its Chairman, ably supported by members of the church’s Board of Trustees who are also permanent members of the reconstituted Council. All Members of the new body were sworn in by Justice G.O. Ajibike, State of Osun’s Chief Judge, who is also a Mother Celestial of the church. Oath of allegiance to God Almighty, oath of allegiance to the Pastor and the church was duly administered on all members of the reconstituted Council.

In his inaugural address, the Pastor and Spiritual Head of the C.C.C., Rev E.M. Oshoffa emphasized that, “in appointing you as members of the Pastor-in-Council (the highest ruling body of our church) you have been called to a tenure of hard work, service to the church and its members in a spirit of love, humility, and self-sacrifice. It is by the transparent demonstration of these qualities, in and out of office, that we show ourselves to be true bonafide members of the Celestial Church of Christ. This appointment is for a period of two years in the first instance.” Speaking further, Pastor E.M. Oshoffa stated that “each one of you has been appointed on merit based on your admirable track record of performance within and outside the church.”

Other speakers at the occasion included Superior Evangelist S.O. Banjo, the Doyen of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide and the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees, Superior Evangelist Pius Olarewaju who noted that this is a new beginning of commitment and progress which can only be achieved through discipline, focus, and hard work.

The reconstituted Pastor-in-Council will operate through a committee system. To this end, thirteen working committees have been created and would be announced shortly. These committees will discuss issues and make recommendations to the Council in a manner that would enhance the decision-making process of the Council. The Secretary of the new Pastor-in-Council is Venerable Most Senior Evangelist M.O. Shodunke, while Special Most Senior Evangelist Kayode Ajala and Superior Evangelist S.F. Adeniyi were sworn in as Assistant Secretaries.

Present at the occasion were Most Superior Evangelist T.A. Oshin, Superior Evangelist S.O. Banjo, Assistant Most Superior Evangelist M.O. Ajao, Asst Most Superior Evangelist A. Ajose, Asst Most Superior Evangelist O. Olarinde, Asst Most Superior Evangelist Akindoyin and a host of other dignitaries.
